 VFD Variable

VFD Variable can be set to have many variable because basically that what a VFD does.  By managing the frequency and voltage of electricity going to the motor it can efficiently operate the motor at different speeds.  A VFD variable adjust the speed on a motor to meet load requirements and enhances the life of the equipment and saves on energy cost.  When applied properly, the VFD variable is the most effective motor controller in the industry today. The VFDs of today are affordable and reliable, has a wide selection of control mechanization to produce variable speed on motors and equipment. 

These VFD Variable are used in a wide variety of applications for various reasons.  VFDS produces the most energy saving in pump and fan applications.  They also enhance operations, particularly where flow control VFD variable is involved.  The variable speed of the VFD provides soft start capabilities, which decrease electrical stresses and line voltage sags associated with full voltage motor start-ups, this is especially true with driving high-inertia loads. VFD Variable - Basic VFD theory

When applying a VFD to a motor your need to understand the requirements of the load.  The VFD must have enough current capability for the motor so it can produce the required torque for the load.  VFD loads can be divided into three different load types.

VFD variable torque load are often found in variable flow applications, such as fans and pumps.  Examples of applications are pumps, fans, centrifugal blowers, propeller pumps, turbine pumps, agitators, and axial compressors.  A VFD offers the greatest energy saving in these VFD variable load because horsepower varies as the cube of speed and torque varies as square of speed for these loads.  If the motor speed is reduced by 20%, the motor horsepower is reduced by a cubic relationship (.8 x .8 x .8) or 51%.  Many manufactures have free software programs to calculate and document potential energy savings by using using these VFDs.

Constant horsepower loads are most found in the machine-tool industry and center driven winder applications.  Examples of these loads are core-driven reels, winders, wheel grinders, large driller machines, lathes, planers, boring machines, and core extruders.

Constant Torque loads represents 90% of general industrial machines excluding  fans and pumps.  Examples are conveyors, hoists, printing presses, positive displacement pumps, some mixers and extruders, reciprocating compressors, and rotary compressors.
